Wyoming 2007 cont.
Jackie and I took off scouting north and Dwight south, while Terry rode out to find out about his new grandson Keaton and Teryn.
Dwight with his 100lb gadget backpack.
Jackie kicked back by the fire.
While we were scouting, the rain turned to snow, so Jackie and I decided we had better head back to camp. We were really excited to see the snow, but by the time we got to camp, our joy became concern. The snow was heavy and when we got back to camp, the tents were about to cave in from the weight of the snow and ice. We had to knock the snow off every 15 minutes to keep the tents from falling in.
Because of the snow, ice and rain, we had to spend the next day inside of the kitchen tent. Yes, it was quite crowded, but the only dry spot we could all get into.
Joy was a trouper. She carried everything from the kitchen table & ice chest to the kitchen sink.
Oh, I guess I should say something about the hunt, since that is really what we came out for. To summarize, it was terrible. Opening morning (Monday), I saw two bull elks, mule deer and a monster coyote. This is not a very good picture, but is one of the two bulls that crossed the meadow 125 yards in front of me (of course that is the way it goes, since I had a cow tag). None of the others saw anything. We didn’t hear over 10 shots on opening morning. Basically, there wasn’t enough cold weather and snow to push the elk down, so there just were no elk in the area. Most of the hunters left Monday evening.
Returning from a hard morning of hunting, Dwight had a good fire going for us.
This is a picture from the back of our camp. The right green tent is where Jackie and I slept, the kitchen tent is left of it and the pot is in the bottom left. I think we learned a much greater appreciation for the conveniences we are blessed with today and one of them is not having to go outside in the middle of the night and wipe snow from the pot. Yes, it was cold!!!
Dwight cooking a hot dog over the fire. Dwight did a great job cooking for us. Every morning, by the time we got our hunting clothes ready, Dwight had a hot breakfast and coffee ready for us. He worked really hard to help us out.
Just relaxing by the fire after dinner.
These pictures just can’t give justice to views we had. This was where Terry hunted the opening morning. What a view!!
This is the little two man tent that Terry and Dwight slept in. Actually, one night terry was trying to buy Jackie’s four man tent. I was sweating it for a while.
Our kitchen wasn’t pretty, but worked really well.
This is a picture of me and Henry on the best trail we rode all week. It was steep and rocky and beautiful scenery.
This was a breath taking view.
